Woodwork Weekend

This has been a week of woodwork related activities. We've discovered a company that can copy the original architraves (the trim around the door frames & windows) for a reasonable price. We're hoping that by copying the old details our alterations and updates will feel like they were always part of the original house.

Speaking of the original house, we unearthed what is left of our banisters. The newel post is very nice indeed and we have a scant few spindles left upstairs as well. On Saturday we visited a couple of reclamation yards and sourced two old doors that are an almost perfect match for the 4 panel items we have already. The newly acquired ones have all the paint stripped off and no nasty hardboard covering, bonus! One of the doors is for our new utility room, the other for the new cloakroom under the stairs.

Work on the cloakroom started in earnest on Sunday with another woodwork related task - stripping off woodchip wallpaper! It came away pretty well luckily, but we'll skim the walls as some of the old plaster wasn't looking too good. The tiny wall will be a good warm up plastering exercise, if I can't manage that then my plans for the rest of the house need to be revisited!

We have now chosen a contractor to work on the loft conversion for us. The architect came round on Saturday afternoon and started the process of creating our plans. He was very receptive to our (I mean 'my', but am in denial...) borderline obsessive requirements on staircase geometry and window proportions. All very exciting, hopefully work will start in mide January - brrr...

Fancy woodwork in every sense! Will you take all the woodchip off or just bits? Have you tried plastering yet? Sounds really tricky.
David 'borderline obsessive'?!!Good for you-stick at it.
More pictures of Ali, please. We like to see how she is developing too!

Hello you two 'adventurers'!

I have to admit to not having a clue what you're on about most of the time but the pictures are keeping me amused and I'm in deep admiration of your energy!

Also, I'll reiterate M&P's request for more piccies of Ali's development.

It's great reading someone elses blog. We can't put any pictures on our one at the moment so this is filling the pre-paid internet time very well.

Bit worried about the photos of Dave. Strange grin as he breaks things! And do you have your arm around the invisible man in one of the pictures?
